Australian-Made Fabrication for the Construction Industry

Weld East Fabricators has been supplying fabricated steel and custom metal fabrication to Western Australia’s construction sector since 1982. From structural steel frameworks to architectural features, we work with builders, civil contractors and project managers across Perth and regional WA to deliver components that are on-spec, on time and fully compliant.

Our Metal Fabrication Construction Industry Solutions

Our General Fabrication Services cover the full scope of what construction projects typically require. That includes:

  • Structural steel frames, beams, columns and trusses
  • Pre-assembled staircases, handrails, platforms and access ladders
  • Custom steel components fabricated to exact project specifications
  • Fabricated steelwork for commercial and civil infrastructure

We work with mild steel, structural steel, high-tensile steel, stainless steel and aluminium. Our CNC plasma cutting equipment handles plate up to 32mm thick, reducing re-work on site and keeping your schedule on track.

For projects requiring corrosion-resistant or lightweight components, our Aluminium and Stainless Steel Expertise covers grade 304 and 316 stainless steel as well as structural aluminium fabrication.

Welding, Finishing and Quality Control for Construction Projects

All welding is performed by qualified tradespersons in accordance with AS/NZS 1554 Structural Steel Welding standards. We use stick, MIG andTIG welding processes depending on the material and application, and we support non-destructive testing (NDT) including magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonic testing where project specifications require it.

Surface finishing is handled in-house or through our partner network, covering sandblasting, powder coating and hot-dip galvanising. Full material traceability and QA documentation are available to support WA Government contract requirements and site inspections. We do our own in house painting to specifications as needed.

Safe Work Australia’s Welding Code of Practice outlines the safety obligations that govern welding on construction sites. Our procedures are built around meeting those obligations as standard. We can also meet tight deadlines with service charge costs added to ensure on time delivery on sites.

Why Trusted, Local Steel Fabrication Matters

While imported steel can appear cheaper upfront, it often comes with longer lead times, limited traceability and compliance uncertainty – real risks on projects where QA documentation and Australian Standards compliance are non-negotiable. We only use Australian Steel.

Working with a local fabricator means tighter control over timeframes, direct communication with the people building your components, and faster resolution when project requirements change mid-stream.

Custom Fabrication Solutions Delivered for Construction

If you have drawings or specifications ready, Request a Quote and we’ll come back to you with a detailed response. If you’re still in the design phase, we’re happy to provide input early – getting a fabricator involved before documentation is finalised often saves time and cost later.

    FAQs

What is metal fabrication in the construction industry?

Metal fabrication in construction refers to the process of cutting, shaping, welding and finishing steel and other metals to produce structural and architectural components. This includes everything from load-bearing frames and columns to handrails, platforms and facade elements.

What Australian Standards govern fabricated steel for building projects?

Key standards include AS 4100-2020 (Steel Structures), AS/NZS 1554 (Structural Steel Welding) and the NCC 2025 National Construction Code, Part B4. We fabricate in compliance with these standards an d provide documentation to support site and contract requirements.

How does structural steel fabrication differ from general metal fabrication?

Structural steel fabrication is specifically focused on load-bearing components designed to meet engineering specifications and structural standards. General fabrication covers a broader range of metalwork, including non-structural components, custom parts and finishing work.

Do you provide powder-coated or galvanised finishes?

Yes. We offer in-house sandblasting and can arrange powder coating and hot-dip galvanising through our partner network, depending on your project’s corrosion protection requirements.

What quality-control and NDT procedures do you use?

We carry out internal quality assurance on all fabricated work. Where specified, we support non-destructive testing including magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonic testing. Material certificates and test reports are available on request.

How early should builders engage a fabricator during design?

As early as possible. Involving a fabricator during the design phase allows for input on material selection, connection details and fabrication feasibility – all of which can reduce costs and avoid delays once construction begins.

What areas of WA do you service?

We service Perth Metro and regional Western Australia from our Hazelmere and Bellevue workshops. We also deliver to other Australian states for larger projects.
