Where the idea came from
Supporting WA Wildlife reflects the Garrett family’s commitment to giving back to the Western Australian community. Recognising the important role WA Wildlife plays in protecting our native wildlife, the Garrett family saw an opportunity for Weld East to put its skills and expertise to good use, making a practical contribution to support the organisation’s important work.
Preparing for H5 bird flu
Since 1998, WA Wildlife has been rescuing, treating and rehabilitating native wildlife across Western Australia. Its Bibra Lake hospital is the busiest wildlife rehabilitation facility in the State.
To help prepare for the potential arrival of H5 bird flu in WA, WA Wildlife has established a rehabilitation facility in the South West, creating additional capacity to care for affected wildlife.
Our contribution
Weld East proudly fabricated the panels for the new facility pro bono, with installation completed in time for summer. The panels will help support the care of more than 400 sick and injured black swans.
Each panel was made using 50 × 50 mm welded mesh, fabricated into a frame for strength and durability, with materials supplied by BlueScope Distribution at wholesale pricing. Our team cut, formed and welded every panel at our Hazelmere workshop before applying a cold galvanising finish to help protect against rust.
Although this was a contribution to the community rather than a paid project, we approached it with the same care, precision and quality standards as any other job. For our team, giving back means putting our skills to good use and delivering work we can be proud of.
