Australian-made fabrication for the commercial construction industry
Weld East Fabricators has been delivering custom metal fabrication to Western Australian industry since 1982. Commercial construction projects depend on components that are fabricated precisely, supplied on schedule and fully compliant with Australian Standards.
That is what we have been doing for over 40 years, working with project managers, builders and civil contractors across Perth and regional WA.
We source all steel directly from Bluescope Steel, meaning your project benefits from 100% Australian steel at every stage. We manage the complete fabrication process in-house, from initial cutting and forming through to welding, finishing and delivery, giving you a single point of contact and clear accountability throughout.
Metal fabrication services for commercial construction projects
Our general fabrication services address the broad scope of what commercial construction projects require. These include:
- Structural fabrication of steel columns, beams and frames
- Pre-fabricated staircases, platforms and access ladders
- Handrails, balustrades and safety bollards
- Custom steel components fabricated to engineering drawings and project specifications
- Electrical and hydraulic enclosures for mechanical services installations
- Fabricated steelwork for commercial and civil infrastructure
We work with a range of materials including mild steel, structural steel, high-tensile steel, stainless steel grades 304 and 316, and structural aluminium. Our CNC plasma cutting equipment handles plate up to 32mm thick, producing clean, accurate profiles that reduce rework on site and keep your programme on track.
The techniques and materials we use allow us to fabricate a variety of possible shapes and designs for many projects, while also being durable enough to withstand possible environmental exposure to elements such as rot and mould. Metal frames can also be lighter than concrete for structuring.
While we fabricate columns, beams, frames and a wide range of structural steel components, we do not manufacture roof or floor trusses. If your commercial project requires truss fabrication, you will need to engage a specialist truss supplier for that scope. This is worth confirming early if you already have a truss contractor engaged, so expectations across trades are clearly defined.
For components requiring corrosion resistance or weight reduction, our aluminium and stainless steel fabrication capabilities cover both lightweight structural aluminium and marine-grade stainless steel, suited to facades, cladding supports, balustrades and plant room fittings.
Welding services, finishing and quality control for commercial construction
All welding services are carried out by qualified tradespersons in accordance with AS/NZS 1554 Structural Steel Welding standards. We apply stick, MIG and TIG welding processes based on the material type and application requirements. Where project specifications call for it, we support non-destructive testing including magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonic testing.
Surface finishing is managed in-house or through our established partner network. Our finishing options include sandblasting, in-house painting to specification, powder coating and hot-dip galvanising.
Information such as cost is quite important for these projects. While complex designs and material type can affect these costs, overall construction costs can be reduced with prefabricated components.
For such commercial projects subject to government or head contractor QA requirements, we provide full material traceability and documentation to support site inspections and contract compliance. Material certificates and test reports are available on request.
Our welding procedures are built around meeting Safe Work Australia’s Welding Code of Practice as a baseline. For projects with tight programmes, we can prioritise delivery with agreed service arrangements to ensure on-time supply to your site.
Why local structural steel fabrication services matter for commercial projects
Using Australian steel from Bluescope and fabricating locally means your project avoids the traceability gaps and compliance uncertainty that often come with imported alternatives. On commercial projects, where QA documentation and adherence to Australian Standards are non-negotiable, verified material sourcing is not a secondary consideration.
Working with a local Perth fabricator also means faster response when project requirements change. There is no freight delay, no language barrier and no ambiguity about whose responsibility an issue falls under.
Our 3-week turnaround guarantee sets us apart from many competitors in the market, and it reflects the operational capacity we have built across our two Hazelmere and Bellevue workshops with a capable team of skilled professionals to provide minimal downtime.
Cost comparisons with offshore supply should always account for lead times, compliance documentation, rework risk and the added cost of delays to your construction programme.
Custom metal fabrication solutions for your commercial construction project
If your drawings or specifications are ready, request a quote and we will respond with a detailed submission. If you are still working through the design phase, we welcome early engagement.
Having a fabricator involved before documentation is finalised can influence connection details, material selection and fabrication feasibility in ways that reduce both cost and programme risk.

FAQs
What is metal fabrication for commercial construction?
Metal fabrication for commercial construction refers to the cutting, forming, welding and finishing of steel and other metals to produce components used in commercial building projects.
This covers structural elements such as columns and beams, architectural metalwork including balustrades and facades, and functional items such as access platforms, enclosures and custom brackets fabricated to engineering specifications.
What materials do you use for commercial construction fabrication?
We work with mild steel, structural steel, high-tensile steel, stainless steel grades 304 and 316, and structural aluminium. All steel is sourced from Bluescope Steel, ensuring full Australian material traceability from the start of the fabrication process to delivery on site.
Do you fabricate trusses for commercial construction projects?
No, truss fabrication is not within our scope. We produce columns, beams, frames, platforms, handrails and a wide range of custom structural and non-structural steel components, but we do not manufacture roof or floor trusses. If your project requires trusses, you will need to engage a dedicated truss supplier for that element of the work.
What Australian Standards apply to fabricated steel for commercial building projects?
Key standards include AS 4100-2020 (Steel Structures), AS/NZS 1554 (Structural Steel Welding) and the NCC 2025 National Construction Code, Part B4. We fabricate in compliance with these standards and provide supporting documentation for site and contract purposes.
What surface finishes are available for commercial construction components?
We offer in-house sandblasting and painting to specification, with powder coating and hot-dip galvanising available through our partner network. The appropriate finish depends on the corrosion exposure, aesthetic requirements and project specification for each component.
How quickly can you deliver fabricated components for a commercial project?
We offer a 3-week turnaround guarantee, which is significantly faster than many fabrication competitors. Turnaround times depend on project scope and complexity, so we recommend contacting our team early to confirm scheduling for your programme.
How early should project teams engage a fabricator?
As early as possible. Engaging a fabricator during the design phase allows for practical input on connection details, material selection and fabrication feasibility. This kind of early collaboration regularly reduces cost and prevents delays once construction is underway.
What areas do you service?
We service Perth Metro and regional Western Australia from our workshops in Hazelmere and Bellevue. We also deliver to other Australian states for larger commercial projects.
